Regular Course

KLCP's regular course is an full-time Korean language and cultural program. There are four semesters in an academic year, and each semester consists of 10 weeks. Classes are divided into levels 1 to 6, according to each student's proficiency, and are designed to provide a balanced development of speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. In addition, students can participate in a variety of cultural programs, special lectures, and opportunities to practice conversation with UOS students.

Class rules

You must attend a minimum of 160 hours per semester. If you fail to attend 40 hours or more, you will be disqualified to progress to the next level.

If anyone fails to attend classes during the first week of each semester, your enrollment and visa will be canceled.

Levels of classes

There are 6 levels, and a placement test is conducted for new KLCP students to assess their Korean language proficiency. The test results will decide your class.

Curriculum and Objectives of Each Level

Level Description
1 Foreign students with no knowledge of the Korean language can develop the communication skills necessary for everyday life. In particular, they can learn

how to pronounce Hangeul accurately

the basic structure of the Korean language to understand and use short sentences

how to greet people, introduce themselves, order food, shop, make phone calls, and use public transportation

basic Korean culture essential for everyday life, including Korean cuisine, address terms, and others

2 Foreign students who have completed Level 1 or have equivalent knowledge of the Korean language can develop basic communication skills necessary for everyday life. In particular, they will be able to

understand and use relatively long sentences composed of short phrases

talk about familiar topics such as family, hobbies, seasons, travel, experiences, and holidays

use informal and polite speech as appropriate

experience and become familiar with traditional Korean culture like Seollal food and Yut nori.

3 Foreign students who have completed Level 2 or have equivalent knowledge of the Korean language can develop the communication skills necessary for social activities and become familiar with Korean culture. In particular, they can

learn enough vocabulary and idioms to engage freely in everyday conversation

express themselves on a variety of topics such as renting a room, moving, requesting repairs, planning a vacation, and acting in plays

understand Korean culture through activities such as making Korean dishes and visiting cultural sites.

4 Foreign students who have completed Level 3 or have equivalent knowledge of the Korean language can develop the communication skills necessary for a variety of social activities, as well as experience traditional and modern Korean culture. In particular, they will be able to

formally express their thoughts in discussions on social and personal issues, such as the role of mass media, marriage issues, and so on

read and understand works on social and abstract topics, and experience Korean literature in the form of poems, essays, novels, etc

visit cultural sites and experience traditional and modern Korean culture.

5 Foreign students who have completed Level 4 or have equivalent knowledge of the Korean language can possess the ability to communicate comfortably in a variety of situations and have a broad knowledge of Korean culture. In particular, they will be able to

choose a class for academic or professional purposes in accordance with their goal and develop language skills

read and write articles, advertisements, and critiques on current events

logically emphasize their thoughts and arguments on various topics, including social issues, economics, history, and culture.

6 Foreign students who have completed Level 5 or have equivalent knowledge of the Korean language will be able to speak fluently in Korean for social and academic purposes and to gain in-depth knowledge of the Korean language and culture. In particular, they will be able to

present and discuss specialized topics in a logical manner using advanced vocabulary and expressions

listen to and understand a variety of audio and visual information such as news, public announcements, lectures, and colloquies

develop professionalism and presentation skills through projects, where students research and write a short paper on a topic that interests them.
